Healthy Gums, Healthy Heart Program
Did you know the latest research indicates there is a strong connection between periodontal disease, heart disease and stroke? The cause of these seemingly different health conditions is the same—that cause is chronic inflammation. That is why if you have periodontal disease, you may have an increased risk of a heart attack or stroke. With heart disease being the number one killer in the United States, this is very concerning.
There is now a simple blood test to check your risk of heart disease and stroke by measuring the amount of inflammation in your body. The test is measuring C-reactive protein (CRP), a substance produced in the liver in response to inflammation in the body and is a much better indicator of future heart attack and stroke than cholesterol levels.
It is estimated that at least 50% of patients with periodontal disease have elevated CRP levels, putting them in the moderate to high risk categories for future heart attack and stroke. The good news is that with our Healthy Gums, Healthy Heart Program, in most cases, you can lower your CRP levels 30-90%. The most popular cholesterol lowering drugs (statins) can only improve CRP levels by 20%, and as with all drugs, have harmful side-effects.
The Healthy Gums, Healthy Heart Program involves a combination of proper cleanings, home care techniques, and includes all natural nutraceuticals that have been proven to lower CRP levels naturally and treat periodontal disease from within the body. In the past only cleanings and better hygiene were recommended to treat periodontal disease, but studies now confirm that this alone has no effect on CRP levels. When we add the component of proper nutrition to the program, CRP levels start to drop and periodontal disease improves. When CRP levels drop, you know your inflammation is getting more under control and your risk of heart disease and stroke is decreasing.
If you would like to participate in our Healthy Gums, Healthy Heart program, please let us know and we will get your initial CRP levels checked. Then after 4 months of our program, we will have your CRP levels rechecked and you will be able to see how the program has worked for you.
