ARE YOU PROTECTED FROM FREE RADICAL STRESS?
OK, so you know your height, weight, body fat, HDL’s, LDL’s, blood pressure, and your blood sugars. But do you know your antioxidant score? High levels of antioxidants are associated with a strong immune system and your immune system is what protects you from various chronic diseases, including periodontal disease and heart disease.
What if I could show you a way to discover how many antioxidants are in your body, working hard at your defense, day and night, preventing you from developing colds, flu, and other chronic disease? Furthermore, what if there was a tool that was scientifically proven to measure skin carotenoids, a good indicator of overall antioxidants in your body. Would you want to know more?
Before we discuss this, we need to discuss free radicals. Free radicals are oxygen molecules that have one unpaired electron, making them unstable and highly reactive. They roam throughout the body causing damage to our cells by stealing electrons from other cells causing more free radicals and more instability. This cell damage can impair our body’s ability to fight against illness. There are studies showing that this damage is linked to degenerative diseases, including heart disease, periodontal disease, cancer, age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and the aging process. The body’s natural defense to free radical damage is antioxidants.
Antioxidants render free radicals harmless. Antioxidants have extra electrons that they share with free radicals, making the previously unstable (and dangerous to our health) free radical stable and harmless. Antioxidants are the real heroes in our fight against disease. The more antioxidants in your system, the stronger your immune system will be. The best way to get antioxidants is by consuming 10-15 servings of organic vegetables and fruits daily, with the majority of them uncooked. Because most people find this difficult to do, a quality antioxidant supplement is important. Whether you increase your vegetable and fruit consumption, take a quality antioxidant supplement, or do both, it is critical to know if your body is absorbing the nutrients.
Up until a short while ago, the only way to find out if you were absorbing your nutrients was to do a costly blood test or remove a patch of skin from your body and wait a week for the results. Finally, there's a better way to measure your body’s antioxidant level using a new laser light technology.
Scientists at the University of Utah developed a portable machine called the BioPhotonic Scanner that uses a low level laser to measure the level of antioxidants, specifically the 18 carotenoids, in your body. The laser measures antioxidants in the tissues, where they are actually doing their job of fighting free radical damage.
To find out your antioxidant status, you simply place the palm of your hand over the light and two minutes later you have a reading of your antioxidant status. This is an indication of just how well you're doing in terms of your diet and supplementation.
It's simple, painless, and it works! If your antioxidant level is low, I recommend a change in diet as well as adding a high quality supplement. After 60 days, come back and get scanned again. Your antioxidant level should have gone up indicating a stronger immune system and more protection from chronic diseases, including periodontal disease. In fact, for those that have done this, including myself and family, you should notice an increase in your energy as your antioxidants go up. As most of you know, for the past 5 years I have been learning natural ways to improve the dental, as well as the overall health for my patients. I have never been so excited to offer a program to my patients because I feel this has the potential to impact the health of so many of you.
Sincerely,
Dr. Ray
